The Absent Ego
Having spent considerable time on describing the present dysfunctional ego as having an “addict consciousness” (refer to previous updates), we have decided to bring the light of greater truth on the general subject of ego development. Unfortunately, there is still excessive confusion in this area. In times past, the ego was described as the soul and spiritual students can still find written accounts from eastern spiritual teachers describing the main goal of students as externalizing the ego into matter. In those days, the personality and the ego were not perceived to be the same aspect. There are reasons for this, but to describe those reasons within a small monthly update would be counterproductive. Giving an adequate explaination would touch on many areas and would require much more space.
Success, in this area of development, meant achieving one of the progressive stages of enlightenment, and thus, the externalization or the expression of the ego (eastern perception) into matter was perceived in the same manner as the ability to express the uniqueness of the soul (western perception). While the terminology was different, the goals were the same. Therefore, many of the eastern spiritual doctrines discounts the reality of the word “soul” , even to this day, while verifying the same reality components that occur to a person when the soul is expressed. It was not at all unusual to find people in different geological locations using different words to describe exactly the same conditions found within the developing human. There were different developments occurring in these two great civilizations of East and West that is poorly understood even today.
Presently, Lightworkers use the word ego as synonymous with an individualized personality. The soul must create an individualized ego/personality that can function in matter within the present surrounding environment. Since the soul is not always focused in just one moment in time and space, (depending on its development), the ego becomes a valuable and necessary first step in the soul's goal to express some part of its uniqueness into the third dimension. Then, as the personality develops an individual physical, emotional, and mental integrated awareness, the process begins where the soul and the personality initiate working in a more active partnership, in order to make a unique contribution to the whole.
This partnership process begins with developing the intuition, using meditation to expand the energy into additional dimensions, receiving inspiration, revelations, and enlightened understandings that emerge into the conscious mind. This process of the soul gradually fusing to the personality until both become one greater whole is complicated; it is quite difficult for most people to grasp, as it is not merely concrete or sequential. Understandably, a previous developmental goal for the personality was to manifest a more advanced and specific way to use the brain in understanding life. This was necessary so that, eventually, human perception could acquire the ability to gain additional understanding in the area of soul perception. Knowledge of the world of the soul would then be better absorbed into the third dimension. We see this important developmental milestone coming to fruition, more and more, throughout the preceding Age of Pisces. In Aquarius, many will turn towards developing the additional challenges found in the intuitive aspects of the brain and going on to pursue an active partnership with the soul. This inevitably leads to the stage of spiritual discipleship where the ego becomes so infused with the Light of the Soul that it learns to become an advocate for the greater good.
Today, we see a pandemic dysfunctional condition of the personality/ego called, “the Addict Consciousness” well integrated throughout the countries of the world. It is the cause of many difficulties for humankind. This is a destructive reversal of the original blueprint for ego development and subsequent integration with the soul. Still, we must give recognition to those souls who have managed to create an individual personality into the plane of matter for there is another condition rarely spoken of that afflicts more people than you might imagine. We call attention to this condition and identify it as, “The Absent Ego.”
Because the personality/ego has free will, it can make those choices that assure its survival in form, or it can choose to surrender the creation of becoming an individual separate self. Children decide to destroy or fragment the self for various reasons. The most easily identifiable cause for this condition is a lack of security, acceptance, and healthy attention from significant adults around the child. Most relationships found on the planet today are dysfunctional and unbalanced in one or many areas. The Aquarian Age with its heavy emphasis on relationship development is vitally necessary for human advancement.
The child, however, knows nothing about the elements of dysfunctional personalities; it knows only that it needs security, acceptance, and attention. Some children find, at a rather early age, that being different from the parents is not tolerated and attempts to maintain that difference or budding individuality brings only more pain and suffering. There are more cases than you might imagine where the child surrenders the individual unique ego to then develop a personality that is simply another blend of the dysfunctional mother and father. The unhealthy ego of the parents becomes the unhealthy ego of the child and sadly the original individualized personality is destroyed or severely fragmented.
These children grow into adulthood functioning as a blend of both parents. This blending is most often unequal as boys tend to absorb the personality of the father and girls tend to absorb the personality of the mother. There are many examples of different degrees of blending and it is a comprehensive subject that cannot be adequately discussed at this time. Sometimes the girls absorb the attributes of the father while the boys absorb the attributes of the mother. These personalities usually perceive themselves to be separate personalities yet this is a false belief. Should they make a serious attempt, later in life, to grow beyond this early dysfunctional programming and reassert the original personality, it is usually too late to begin again and try to create an individual self. Success is certainly possible although it requires tremendous effort and courage to accomplish. Most people are not willing to put forth this amount of effort.
This tragic situation usually leads to a lifetime of fear based frustration and unhappiness. The soul has not been able to create an individualized personality/ ego into the plane of matter. These people are not easy to identify and usually require extensive psychological testing to reveal the underlying condition. They develop careers, get married, own houses, and sometimes work in prominent positions in the community. Until testing is accomplished, most continue to have no understanding of their original lost ego. Even with testing this condition is not easy to identify and dysfunctions are usually attributed to some lesser cause. In most cases their loved ones are unable to discern the original cause of the frustration and unhappiness seen in their domestic partners.
As relationships become healthier in our species, we can expect to see adults with more tolerance and emotional maturity, which support the development of a separate individuality in their children. When parents are severely dysfunctional, it is often better for the child, if she/he does not try so hard to “be like” them in order to earn acceptance and attention. There will come a time when, “The Absent Ego' is no more. For this accomplishment and many more we will continue to work for the good of the whole.
